Just who is this guy? At every turn he’s got us scratching our heads and squinting quizzically at our screens. He’s bad. But he has a compassionate side. No, he’s diabolically bad, a demon seed. Then he waxes tearful, remorseful even, as he watches people intentionally killed or drained of their paranormal abilities.
The Tomorrow People’s Dr. Jedikiah Price (Mark Pellegrino) is an evolutionary biologist/brother-in-law/uncle/middle management Ultra marionette–That’s more layers than my mom’s baklava, and yes, many of them are contradictory.
Eventually, our questions about Jedikiah might get answered by The Tomorrow People fairies, but till then it’s fun to speculate. Look at what we’ve come up with and weigh in yourself in the comment section below.
Outrageous Revelation #1: Jedikiah is a Closeted Tomorrow Person and a Double Agent
This would be the ultimate twist, wouldn’t it? And why not? It wouldn’t be the first time something was exactly the opposite of what it seemed to be in the world of make-believe entertainment.
Perhaps Jedikiah was a late bloomer who saw the challenges younger brother Roger faced as a Triple T psionic and decided he could learn more about the Homo Superior race from an observer’s point of view rather than from the perspective of bacterium in a petri dish.
Jedikiah is first and foremost a scientist. Like all obsessively curious scientists he is an indefatigable experimenter possessed of the extraordinary patience required to conduct research year after year with little reward (and keep a dastardly secret to boot!). Could it be that he seeks the power to control evolution and possibly protect the Tomorrow People from Ultra’s genocidal campaign? We’ve already seen in the preview for next Monday’s The Tomorrow People episode, “Endgame,” that Jedikiah wants the nefarious founder of Ultra killed. This poses the very real possibility that Jed’s a double agent. Or does it?
Outrageous Revelation #2: Jedikiah Plans to Resurrect Roger and Steal His DNA
First, how creepy was the final scene of “Brother’s Keeper” when Jedikiah talked to ‘Roger The Popsicle’ in his basement? Shudder inducing, no?
Roger had been a significant threat to Ultra when John was forced to send him to live with the fishes. Could Jedikiah have grabbed warm but dead Roger and cryopreserved him while his flesh was still alive, planning to resurrect his brother once he uncovered the special power-imbuing genome. Once Roger gets the Jesus treatment, Jedikiah could extract the magical genome, inject it into himself, and become a Tomorrow Person, then take over the world. Or whatever.
This would explain why Jedikiah was so intent on examining the Wraith twins. By examining identical twins, he’d be able to isolate that rascally genome! Now, here’s the biggest twist: Morgan is pregnant with Jedikiah’s child. Wouldn’t it be wild if she gave birth to twins, if he can keep Morgan alive long enough to deliver, that is, since she’s supposed to be his late girlfriend? If Jedikiah would sacrifice his own brother for science and his own personal gain, would he be scrupulous enough to use his own children as lab rats? Queue the ominous music.
Outrageous Revelation #3: Jedikiah has Been a Good Guy All Along
He could be that double agent as suggested above, and it could be because he’s one of the good guys. He and Roger could have started out with good intentions, but then everything went to hell at Ultra (which sounds like what actually happened). Roger went rogue, but Jed felt he could do more, protect more, from the inside. Sound familiar?
Jed does seem to genuinely care for his sister-in-law Marla, and both his nephews. At times he appears to feel an intense affection for Stephen, but one wonders if this has more to do with the possibility that Jedikiah wants to study the cellular make-up of the young synergist who demonstrates the ability to stop time like his father did.
Final argument for the good guy theory: Jedikiah frequently and blatantly disregards evidence that Stephen is part of the underground group The Tomorrow People, and he does it to the extent that it comes off as naivete on his part. Now, we know Jed is a smart guy, so what gives? I’m telling you, he just might have a white hat hidden somewhere in his wardrobe.
