The last cut is the deepest. It’s time for The Voice to go from five to three as we learn who will compete in next week’s season 4 finale. And I have a knot in my stomach.

I’m predicting that Sasha Allen and Amber Carrington are going home, but I don’t even believe that. It’s wishful thinking. In reality, since Amber had a Top 10 hit on iTunes, it could mean Michelle Chamuel will be eliminated. But I love her so much that I’m pretending like it’s not possible.
What is possible is an all-country finale. All four of the songs by Blake Shelton’s two contestants, Danielle Bradbery and The Swon Brothers, were in the Top 10 on iTunes, basically guaranteeing both of them a spot in the finale. If Amber joins them, it’s basically an all-country ending by default, even though Amber has proven she’s much more than a country singer.
I’m having flashbacks to the Top 6 from last season, Cassadee Pope, Terry McDermott, Nicholas David and Trevin Hunte all had Top 10 songs on iTunes. Amanda Brown and Melanie Martinez did not. So Amanda and Melanie went home. That’s the power of having your votes multiplied by 10. It might not matter that both of Michelle’s songs were in the Top 25 while Amber’s “Firework” didn’t even make it on the chart. Sometimes it’s better to have one hit and one flop instead of two strong performances.
If that’s what happens, the show seriously needs to end this “Multiplied by 10” nonsense, because it rewards a completely random and arbitrary distinction. Amber was #9, Michelle was #12, but as a result of those three meaningless spaces, Amber gets multiplied by 10 and Michelle doesn’t. However, since they all sang twice, I’m sure Michelle actually sold MORE songs on iTunes than Amber since her other song was #24.
Oh yeah, and Tony Lucca, Terry McDermott, Nicholas David and Fall Out Boy are all here tonight.

You have to admit, that “Light ’em up” chorus is very catchy. Michelle looks perfectly at home with these guys, but I think her mic is turned off because I can’t hear her at all.
Coach Chat
Adam thinks Amber can do anything. Shakira doesn’t feel like talking because she knows her girl is gone. Usher walks back his “Michelle is a winner” comment now that he’s seen the iTunes charts. Usher adds that he’s learned a lot watching Blake Shelton about how to play the game.
Blake claims that he’s just lucky that both of his artists are special talents and that their success is not by design. What a total crock of B.S. This entire season has been by design. Blake probably has blueprints back home he drew up over the winter. This is the part that makes me even angrier. If he’d just own up to the fact that he’s shamelessly catering to his country fans and saying “Screw you” to anyone who doesn’t like country music, I’d respect it more than his fake humility act.
“Say Goodbye” by Nicholas David
OK, I was never a total fan of this guy in season 3, but after this season, it’s refreshing to hear someone so completely different from anything we’ve seen this year. His voice certainly stands out in a crowd.
The Voice Confessional
Everyone talks about the coaches. They make fun of Usher’s speaking style and shades, Adam’s tattoos, Blake’s laugh and Shakira’s hips. It ends with The Swon Brothers in drag. As much as I hate on them, musically, I really, REALLY like them as people. They seem like such awesome dudes.
THE RESULTS, PART 1
The first singer in the finale is…Michelle Chamuel!
WOW!!!!!!!!!! I’m shocked. Stunned. Flabbergasted. Even though I predicted it, I never actually believed it. And based on her reaction, I think she was a little surprised too. She must have a LOT of fan support to defeat someone whose iTunes downloads were multiplied by 10. Whoever else makes it to the finale should be very scared of that kind of voting support.
“Never Gonna Let You Go” by Tony Lucca
I’ll admit that I didn’t watch this show before season 3, so I’m relatively unfamiliar with Tony Lucca outside of him being a former Mickey Mouse Club member with Xtina, Britney, J.T., J.C., Ryan Gosling, Keri Russell, etc. The song is fun and catchy and he’s appealing. I get why he did so well. He has an album coming out in July and is going on tour with Maroon 5 in September.
The Top 5: “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” by Poison
Yeah, OK, whatever. At least they put all of them in one number instead of dragging it out all night.

Hooray for life-like, animatronic teenager girls.
“Pictures” by Terry McDermott
If this guy was born in any other generation over the past 50 years, he could’ve been a huge superstar. He just has that classic rock vibe. He’s literally getting on a plane and flying back to Scotland in three hours. And he has a baby girl due in three weeks, so his adorable little moppet Liam is getting a sister. Aww! How can you not instantly fall in love with this guy?
THE FINAL RESULTS
Seeing as how The Swon Brothers had more iTunes downloads than anyone else last night, this seems somewhat anticlimactic.

Yeah, we all saw this coming the moment Michelle was safe. Way to completely ruin any potential for dramatic tension.
Also, it it just me, or have I seen this finale before? Danielle is Cassadee Pope (country girl on Team Blake), The Swon Brothers are Terry McDermott (a little more rock, very likeable, relying heavily on their hometown as a gimmick, also on Team Blake) and Michelle is Nicholas David (the unique, totally different singer on Team Usher/Cee Lo).
But this time, I’m rooting for Michelle. If she can beat out Amber, whose iTunes downloads were multiplied by 10, anything is possible.
