It’s official! After much speculation on who will serve as Team Christina’s advisor, NBC announced through The Voice‘s official Twitter that Green Day vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong will be joining its 3rd season. “Welcome Billie Joe (@BJAofficial) to #TeamXtina! We are ready to rock out in Season 3,” said the Twitter post. Armstrong will help coach Christina Aguilera’s mentees during the early rounds of the hit NBC reality show.
Not only has Armstrong been enjoying his new role as he describes working with Aguilera “a lot of fun”, he has admitted that he’s a fan of the show, too, particularly with its approach in discovering potential superstars. “It’s not molding artists, it’s just giving them a little bit of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover,” he commented.
Coming off the heels of the successful mentoring sessions from the first two seasons of The Voice, NBC has decided to carry on with the tradition by having another star-studded roster of impressive artists.
Armstrong will be joined by crooner Michael Buble for Team Blake Shelton, R&B superstar Mary J. Blige for Team Adam Levine and Matchbox 20 front man Rob Thomas for Team Cee Lo Green, all of whom are happy with who they will be working with when The Voice season 3 begins.
According to The Associated Press , Michael Buble describes himself a “big Blake fan” while Mary J. Blige pays respect in her interview with Rolling Stone. “I love Adam, he’s amazing. I’m so happy to be working with him and his team,” she professed.
Rob Thomas seems ecstatic about working with possibly the best discovery in the music industry, too. “I’m really excited to work with Cee Lo and love the idea that I may be in the room with a future superstar that the world has yet to discover,” Thomas expounds.
After a relatively successful run early this year and snagging an Emmy-nomination in the process, NBC has set its sights on sustaining the momentum by airing The Voice for the second time this year. The network announced in May that the hit reality show will be having another run this fall, which eventually caused a stir among the media experts.

Despite disconcerting feedbacks, NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt talked about feeling positive with their decision during the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour. “Almost every reality franchise does two cycles a season, and one could argue that American Idol and X Factor are the same show in many respects – one in the fall, one in the spring. We’re obviously cautious,” Greenblatt explains
