True Blood is getting some fresh blood for the next season. According to TVLine, Golden Globe winner Rutger Hauer will join the show for season 6 as a new series regular named Macklyn.
Macklyn is described as mysterious and sinister with a connection to Sookie and Jason. Given the fact that we were ominously introduced to a vampire who killed Sookie and Jason’s parents and who holds a deed for Sookie’s life named “M. Warlow,” I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that the “M” might just stand for Macklyn.
The only other potential character he might play who has deep ties to the Stackhouse family is Niall Brigant, Sookie and Jason’s great-grandfather in the books and the father of Claude and Claudine. Of course this would mean either they’ve changed his name from the books or Macklyn is a fake code name to confuse fans.
Hauer is known primarily for movie roles like the villainous Roy Batty in Blade Runner. He notably played vampire king Lothos in the movie version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so he’s no stranger to scary vampires trying to kill pretty blonde girls.
He has had very few TV roles, though he did play the Huntsman in the TV miniseries The 10th Kingdom. He also played a Metropolis crime lord on Smallville and the new head of SD-6 in the post-Super Bowl episode of Alias. Clearly Hauer is great at playing scary villains.
The new season of True Blood, the first without showrunner Alan Ball, will air this summer on HBO.
