Ina Treciokas, publicist of Ugly Betty’s Salma Hayek, verified on March 9, 2007 that Hayek is expecting her first child with boyfriend Francois-Henri Pinault. At the moment, there are no reports about the wedding plans or when the baby is due.
Previously, the Mexican actress dated actor Edward Norton in 1999 to 2003, and Joshua Lucas from 2003 to 2004. Now, she is engaged with Pinault, a 44-year old French businessman and father of two, who currently ranks as the 74th richest person in the world. Pinault is the CEO of Pinault-Printemps-Redoute, a corporation that owns fashion brands like Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci and Stella McCartney. And although the couple has high profile names, Hayek being a popular celebrity, and Pinault being a fashion mogul, they both maintain a low profile relationship.
Hayek, a 40-year old Mexican native, studied International Relations at the Universidad Iberoamericana but left school to pursue acting professionally. She starred on the telenovela Teresa and El Callejon de los Milagros, which has garnered more awards than any other film in the history of Mexican cinema. Her other acting credits included Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn, Wild Wild West, Dogma, Frida, and Once Upon a Time in Mexico to name a few. Apart from being an Academy award-nominated actress, she is also known as an Emmy-winning director, as well as a film and television producer.
Hayek’s adaptation of the Columbian telenovela quickly picked up ratings and even won a Golden Globe Award for Best Comedy Series in 2007. Ugly Betty, a comedy-drama, which focuses on a young woman’s struggle as she works in a fashion magazine, aired last September 2006 but has already garnered a number of recognitions since its premier. Apart from being Ugly Betty’s executive producer, Hayek also works as a recurring star of the show, playing the character Sofia Reyes, a magazine editor.
