The first few moments of The Vampire Diaries, Season 5 was released at San Diego Comic-Con 2013. Also, the cast and crew talk college, Silas and the dead. Continue reading for all the news.

Things kick off with a trailer including a lot of old footage and a snippet of new! In The Vampire Diaries, Season 5 we see Silas as Stefan in the middle of the Mystic Falls town square addressing the fact that he is such a strong vampire. In a moment we see Bonnie scream. But since she’s dead, my guess is no one really hears her. Take a look:
Damon and Elena: The two will stay together for as long as possible this season, trying to be happy as everything and everyone around them challenges that. Ian Somerhalder added that he thought Julie Plec was joking when Damon finally gets the girl.
Stefan and Silas: Paul Wesley found out early on that he would be playing two characters. He was very enthusiastic about getting to play an evil character again.
There is a question about how long the big bad is sticking around. Plec mentioned, you don’t typically start out with a big bad. The big bad “usually gets vanquished early on…but you never know.”
Katherine Gets a Cold: Katherine relied so much on her vampire skills to manipulate those around her that she will struggle being human. She has lost her identity and is now lost and weak. The cast commented on a human moment where she coughs up green phlem. Looks like she’s getting the common cold.
Off to College: Elena and Caroline are off to college. Vampires don’t have to worry about such things as money, admissions and high school attendance! They’ll just compel everyone.
Caroline enjoys parties and is determines to get Tyler into college. Meanwhile, it’s unlikely we’ll see Klaus in Mystic Falls this season but there is a chance Caroline could visit New Orleans.
There will be new friends and…new guys!
Bonnie’s Secret: We’ll have to tune in to The Vampire Diaries, Season 5 for how long (if at all) Bonnie is able to keep the secret.
Since she is only able to communicate with Jeremy that relationship will grow.
Plec continues that she has to deal with the fact that she made a big sacrafice for her friends and will have to face that grief.
With Bonnie on the other side, we will get to see the other side and Bonnie’s perspective on that.
Dealing with Jeremy: Jeremy has to be explained on where he went to other people. It will be addressed on page one and two on how he faked his own death, burned down the house and ran away from home.
Damon will also look out for Jeremy while Elena is off at college.
