It’s hard to believe but Bones, FOX’s longest-running scripted drama, is about to end. The series finale will begin with Tuesday, March 21’s episode and finally come to a close the following Tuesday, March 28. In anticipation of the big event, FOX has released a 20-minute-plus retrospective on their YouTube channel of the cast and crew saying goodbye to Bones. The video covers the last days of filming as well as the gratitude everyone feels towards the fans of the long-running series.
Bones: All the Reasons Booth and Brennan Have Always Been Meant for Each Other>>> As TVLine reports, the video was filmed back in December 2016 and it was after the show had wrapped. The cast and crew talk about shooting the retrospective on the set of what used to be Booth and Brennan’s house but has since been dismantled. “It was a nice house. It wasn’t a real house though,” executive producer Stephen Nathan joked. The FBI and the lab were in the process of being dismantled as well and there are several shots of the now-empty sound stages.
The cast then proceeds to go through the entirety of the series reflecting on how the show has grown and evolved. One of the first things they touch on in the pilot is how quickly Brennan’s strength as a character was established. David Boreanaz talked about Brennan and Booth’s first scene together and said, “It defined her strength, her belief in something, which Brennan has very strong beliefs in certain things. She’s very scientific and that’s the way it is.”
There is also a discussion about how the pilot had to be reworked because initially people didn’t like Booth because he was mean to Brennan. The solution was to have a scene in which Booth defends Brennan that would help the audience grow to like him more. “It worked,” executive producer Hart Hanson said. “The minute he defended her to someone who wanted to yank a squint, a scientist, out of the field, the next time we tested people loved David, loved Booth.”

The retrospective goes on to thank the fans for watching. It all ends with David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel together and Boreanaz half thanking his co-star and the audience. “Thank you for your time. Thank you for your understanding, dealing with me,” Boreanaz said with a smile on his face. “Thank you for remembering the one thing — we’re back!”
Are you ready to say goodbye to Bones? What is your favorite part of this retrospective? How did you feel about Brennan and Booth when you first met them in the pilot? What are some of your favorite moments from the series?
Bones‘ two-part finale airs with “The Final Chapter: A Day in the Life” and “The Final Chapter: The End in the End” on consecutive Tuesdays, March 21 and 28, at 9/8c on FOX. Want more news? Like our Bones Facebook page.
