The UnSub hopes that by crossing state lines, no one will connect his murders. Well, that’s why the BAU (and the Highway Serial Killings database) is around in Criminal Minds‘ “The Bond.”
In this episode, the BAU searches for a motive and an UnSub when victims are found in truck stop restrooms along highways throughout the South.

Watch the promo for Criminal Minds‘ “The Bond”:
Listening to a parent is important, but maybe not so much when doing so means saying to a victim, “mother was right about you.” Oh, this is going to be a twisted case.
Check out a sneak peek of the team getting the case:
The Atlanta field office has turned to the BAU for help after connecting a string of murders via the HSK database. Last night, a John Doe was found in a truck stop restroom in Tennessee, and the day before, 61-year-old Claire Westchester was found in a truck stop restroom in Alabama. Both were stabbed multiple times and bound to a urinal with rope. Their left ears were also removed, but is the UnSub keeping them as trophies?
Watch the team discuss victimology:
It’s possible the UnSub they’re looking for is a trucker. Truckers see long hauling as a lifestyle, but it’s a life of solitude and one that can be stressful. The right kind of pressure could have led to the UnSub snapping.
The two victims seem random. John Doe was homeless, while Claire was married to her high school sweetheart and taught at an elementary school. The only thing they have in common is their age (early 60s). Were they just easier targets? Are they surrogates?

Check out one of the crime scenes:
This truck stop is busiest between 5 and 6am, and the body was found around 3, meaning the UnSub knew the pattern. He didn’t seem concerned about being interrupted, and it seems likely he’s familiar with the area. They’re not far from a long haul hub. And with Atlanta so close, most truckers heading in and out of the city would just skip the stop. It’s still risky, so does the UnSub like the thrill?
Watch how Morgan and Tara realize they’re ready to deliver the profile:
While Morgan and Tara are checking out another crime scene, Garcia calls to let them know that the trucking companies she looked into all checked out. So it looks like their UnSub isn’t a trucker, but given his knowledge of the routes and patterns, he has to be connected to someone in the trucking industry.
Garcia also found a connection between their homeless victim (Frank Myers) and third victim (Linda Calvary). He used to work as a public defender, and she was a nurse who testified on a number of cases that he worked. They were targeted, meaning the UnSub has a kill list.

If it’s on TV — especially if it’s a procedural or superhero show — chances are Meredith watches it. She has a love for all things fiction, starting from a young age with ER and The X-Files on the small screen and the Nancy Drew books. Arrow kicked off the Arrowverse and her true passion for all things heroes. She’s enjoyed getting into the minds of serial killers since Criminal Minds, so it should be no surprise that her latest obsession is Prodigal Son.
