Life is complicated. TV can help. “What Would TV Do?” attempts to explore life’s mysteries, problems and everyday situations with the assistance of the life lessons offered by television.
We all know what it’s like: working and working with hardly ever a day off just drains you after awhile.
All work and no play? Never a good idea. You need a vacation, and TV can help with that.
What would TV do?
See the world, but don’t stay too long.
On Chuck, the titular hero has expressed how exciting it is to take advantage of the spy life’s travel opportunities. In the past couple of seasons, Chuck has been to Paris, Switzerland, Thailand, the Middle East and Russia!
It’s important to keep in mind that Chuck never spends too much time in any one location. There’s too much to do! During two trips to Paris, Chuck has never quite managed a visit to the Eiffel Tower, but he did defeat the bad guy and get the girl (twice!). That’s a fair trade-off.
But maybe you have even less time than Chuck. That’s OK, because television still has the solution. With The Amazing Race, you not only get to see pretty much the whole world, you do it in a few short weeks. You know you’ve always wanted to visit Sweden, Ghana and China, so why not visit all of them pretty much at once?
Television knows that those foreign places don’t have more than a few hours’ activity to offer anyway.
Road trip!
Maybe you’re scared of flying. Or perhaps you just don’t have the time and money for air travel. In that case, television recommends a road trip.
TV-inspired road trips are great! Just ask the Winchesters on Supernatural, who have basically been on a road trip for six years now. You can see the country in great detail, live cheaply and stay in incredible hotel rooms. Yes, maybe there will be monsters, but that’s just the price of an excellent driving vacation on television.
Don’t worry about travel times either. Thanks to The Event, we know that all destinations in the United States are within a few hours’ driving time from each other.
It’s not the destination, but the journey.
Wherever you’re going, TV reminds you that the journey is probably going to be the most interesting part. When Modern Family went to Hawaii, which was more entertaining: the tropical vacation itself or the mad dash through the airport upon departure? The airport, of course.
Ensure your TV-appropriate journey by forgetting important documentation (passport, tickets, ID), arguing with security and traveling with as many family members as possible.
TV’s vacation tips can give you that refreshing, rejuvenating time you need. And if, for some reason, you’re tired after all that television-inspired travel, be sure to take a couple of extra days to relax and unwind in front of the TV itself.
