Netflix is fast becoming a powerhouse in the anime space — “Blood of Zeus” is proof of it. With massive set pieces, great characters, and powerful animation to keep audiences glued to their screens, this show may just be the best anime Netflix has ever released.
Fans are really raving about this one. The show was an instant smash from the moment it dropped in October 2020, and critics rated it 100% on Rotten Tomatoes — which says a lot about the show.
You may be wondering, what’s the latest about “Blood of Zeus?” This article discusses all that and other information that may help you find out if this will be your next favorite.
Where Can You Watch “Blood of Zeus?”
“Blood of Zeus” is a Netflix original. Therefore, you can stream all the episodes of the anime series on Netflix.
What Is “Blood Of Zeus” About?
Set in Ancient Greece, the story is told around the character Heron. Heron had been ostracized by his community, but one day he discovers that he is the son of Zeus. Not only did he discover his true heritage, but he also discovered that his fate was to save the world from the demonic armies against it.
The series also leans on a plot most lovers of Greek mythology are familiar with — the moral failures of Zeus and his unfaithfulness to Hera. However, in “Blood of Zeus,” not only does Zeus fail to remain faithful, but he does it with utter disrespect and disregard for Hera. What follows is Hera’s anger, vengefulness, and push to reaffirm her power over Olympus. We are not so used to seeing the character portrayed this way, but it all adds some flair to the storyline.
While the narrative component of the series is worth commending, the animation also didn’t come short. Powerhouse animation studios — the producers of “Seis Manos” and “Castlevania” — delivered a classic work of art, the kind they have a reputation for. The animation style properly depicts the beauty and violence of Greek mythology.
Why Is “Blood of Zeus” 18+?
“Blood of Zeus” is rated 18+ because the show contains several adult themes such as physical assaults, fights, and brutal, bloody violence. There is also drinking, obscene language, some forms of nudity, and allusions to sexual assault.
These themes clearly indicate why the anime series is rated TV-MA — meant for mature audiences only.

Will There Be a Season 2 of “Blood of Zeus?”
“Blood of Zeus” will renew for a second season. Netflix made the announcement via its official Twitter account late 2020. This doesn’t come as a surprise after such a successful outing in its first season.

More so, in an interview, show creators Charley and Vlas Parlapanides remarked that the way season one was concluded already opens the door for major developments to the plot moving forward. This suggests that fans can expect all their favorite characters like Hermes, Alexia, Heron, Seraphim, Apollo — not leaving out Zeus and Hera — to return in season two.
For example, in the season one finale, Zeus’ (Jason O’Mara) wife, Hera (Claudia Christian) was badly injured and barely survived. Her next plan of attack may well be part of the plot in season two. Could Zeus also resurrect in season two after sacrificing his life to protect Hera? That’s a possibility considering that the show is set in a universe of immortal gods who also excel in magic.
That said, what’s not clear yet is when exactly “Blood of Zeus” season two will premiere. However, going by precedent, season one of the show premiered about a year and a half after the show was first announced — the upcoming season might follow the same schedule. If that prediction is correct, “Blood of Zeus” season two may be released before the end of the year.
