A new diva has been added to the ever-expanding list of potential American Idol judges. And it’s not Sir Elton John. He’s already accounted for.
This time, it’s Jessica Simpson who is being wooed by the suits over at FOX. TMZ broke the news earlier today, stating that Simpson has already had “several meetings” with the show and that there appears to be “mutual interest” on both sides of the table.
Nigel Lythgoe probably had plenty to do with this, considering the news just this week that he would likely be returning as the show’s executive producer. With that privilege comes great responsibility…or rather, the ability to wave a mighty wand and make the current judges magically disappear (back in April, he stated that the current judges lacked “chemistry” and that, if given the power, he would replace them all.)
My guess? The ink on his contract is already dry, and he’s doing his best to keep his new job title a secret until next week. Unfortunately, he’s not doing a very good job of it considering his little slip-up on So You Think You Can Dance last night when he refererred to the show as American Idol. Ooops.That’s embarrassing.
FOX execs may be announcing a new American Idol judging panel as soon as Monday when they give their presentation at the 2010 TCA Press Tour. I hope that Jessica Simpson doesn’t have anything better to do than sit around judging people because if any show needs a makeover, it’s this one.
