Last night marked the ninth Armageddon event produced by Word Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).  The event took place at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, New York and featured talents from WWE Raw, SmackDown, and ECW brands in seven professional matches that were scheduled on the event’s card.

As always, yesterday’s brawl involved different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds, plots and storylines.  These wrestlers portrayed a villain or a hero as they followed a series of events that built tension, and culminated into a wrestling match or series of matches.

The main rivalry on the WWE Raw brand heading into Armageddon was between John Cena and Chris Jericho (Christopher Irvine), with the two fighting over the World Heavyweight Championship. In last night’s event, Jericho initially came out as the more aggressive one as he applied a headlock on Cena, stomped him at the neck and kicked him in the ribs.  Eventually, however, Cena was able to take Jericho down, maintaining his title of World Heavyweight Champion.

But the match between John Cena and Chris Jericho was just among the highlights of the WWE Armageddon results.  The event also saw ECW champion Matt Hardy versus Vladimir Kozlov in a non-title match where Kozlov emerged as the victor.

For the Intercontinental Title Number 1 Contender Tournament Finals, it was Rey Mysterio versus CM Punk.  During the bout, Mysterio nearly stole the win through a counter and a roll-up but Punk got back up, pinned Mysterio and ultimately won the tournament.  Punk will then go to feud with William Regal for the IC Title.

To most wrestling fans, the WWE Armageddon results were deemed as predictable.  In the Belfast Brawl, Finlay won against Mark Henry, while Batista defeated Randy Orton. And as for the Santa’s Little Helper Match, Kelly Kelly, Divas Champion Michelle McCool, Mickie James and Maria won after Michelle pinned Jillioan and Maryse.
