Great efforts have been put in to bring forth a compelling and realistic Clear Springs implosion on The Young and the Restless. But while the catastrophe depicted characters gravely struggling for survival, cast member Amelia Heinle reveals that the tragic scenes were very much enjoyable to film.
In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, the 34-year-old soap actress dishes out what it was like shooting the painstaking yet very amusing episodes in which her heavily pregnant character, Victoria Newman, was left comatose after being hit by a falling piece of rock during the Clear Springs explosion.
Though it took a long time to film the controversial Clear Springs episodes, Heinle, who’s expecting a baby in real life, says that she never expected the outcome would turn out really well. Even with her pregnant status, she reveals that she didn’t consider her scenes stressful for her or the baby she’s carrying.
“The most difficult thing for me was not being able to talk to people and trying not to laugh. I was just glad I got to relax because the end of a pregnancy is always so hard. You just want it to be over already,” the Young and the Restless actress said of her scenes where she was just comatose and lying down.
Of course, Heinle also reveals that the stunt people played a big part in making her scenes much easier, especially in the scene where Victoria was hit on the head with a cement block and then rolled down the hill.
“We were laughing so hard when we filmed that scene. There was one guy on the crew and he was up way high on the ladder and was throwing them at me from there. They were hitting me pretty hard, so I was like, ‘Ow!’ Then they were like, ‘Why don’t we stand behind the camera and throw it?’ They were trying to get the perfect hit, so these guys were spending their night throwing Styrofoam blocks at a pregnant woman’s head. We thought it was hysterical. They couldn’t believe that this is what they were being paid to do that day,” she said.
