Sharon Case has a new villain and it comes in the form of pesky mosquitoes. The 36-year-old actress is currently dealing with an insect problem that’s been affecting her work on The Young and the Restless and most especially her health.
Currently residing in Chatsworth, California, the Young and the Restless star is sick of getting vicious mosquito bites, which she has to inconveniently hide from the camera.
“We have a mosquito problem in the area I live in and always have. It’s mosquito-infested!” Case revealed. “Seriously, it was making my life nuts. We’ve been hearing [the buzzing around our heads] at three in the morning, disturbing our sleep. We get up, turn on the lights and it’s, ‘Kill that thing: I can’t sleep this way!’ Meanwhile, you’re all bitten up and now it smells like Raid. It’s disturbing.”
In worst scenarios, Case and husband Sandy usually abandon their bedroom and find another room to sleep in.
“We’d get up and go sleep in the other room instead, or decide to sleep in the other room to begin with,” she said. “We usually keep the doors to the other bedrooms closed for air-conditioning reasons. That means there are no mosquitoes in them.”
Seeing how this affected her life, she came up with a solution to shield herself from the mosquito attacks.
“I broke down and got a mosquito net for my bed,” she explained. “It hangs from the ceiling and comes over the whole bed. It’s rather unsightly.”
Although crude and a bit rustic, the makeshift solution actually works, according to the actress.
“Oh, my God, yes. I finally slept well. What have I been waiting for all these years? It’s going to be my new summer tradition to break out the mosquito net,” she said.
Case, who currently plays Sharon Collins Newman on The Young and the Restless, has won several awards for her role and has renewed her contract with the soap, signing on for three more years.
